There is no single best way to get from Houston to Galveston. It all depends on your flight timing, group size, and budget. Solo travelers and couples will find pre-booked shared shuttles from Houston to Galveston, such as the $35 ride by Royal Galveston, to be one of the best Galveston cruise port transportation options to Galveston cruise port in terms of pricing and availability. However, groups and families may consider private Galveston shuttle service because the “per head” cost difference between shared and private isn’t much for larger groups. For instance, our 10 seater private economy van costs $365, which is about $34 per head for a family of ten.

Other options include rideshares, taxis, or limousine services. Rideshares (Uber/Lyft) offer the convenience of a last-minute booking, and taxis offer immediate departures. However, availability of these services may be an issue during peak times.

  • Cruise Planning Tip: Almost all cruises board at around 12 noon. The safest shuttle time to book is 8 a.m. or 9 a.m. depending on your flight arrival. Aim to get to the cruise port at or before noon for a stress-free boarding experience.

Royal Galveston Shuttle serves hotels across Galveston Island on both shared and private shuttles from Bush Airport IAH and Hobby Airport.

Shuttle Story of the Month

July 2026 — When the Flight Moves to Tomorrow

Most shuttle changes are small. A flight lands an hour late, the pickup moves back, and the day carries on. Some changes are larger than that, and July brought one of them.

Michael Hendley and his group were flying into Bush Intercontinental on July 10, heading to a vacation rental on Galveston Island. Seven passengers, children included, on a private SUV transfer. Then their flight was cancelled. Not delayed. Cancelled. The next available seats put them into Houston a full day later than planned.

A delay and a cancellation are different problems. An hour of slippage gets absorbed by moving to a later pickup. A full day means the original booking no longer applies at all. New date, new arrival time, and a transfer that has to be rebuilt from the start.

Group size makes that harder. Rescheduling one or two travelers is straightforward. Seven is not, because the vehicle has to match the group, and moving the booking means finding an available vehicle of the right size on the new date rather than just an open seat. Private transfers help here. They run 24 hours a day and are not tied to a fixed departure schedule, so the rebooking comes down to confirming the new arrival and reassigning the vehicle.

That is what we did. The booking was rebuilt around the new flight and confirmed before the family landed. The driver met them at IAH and ran direct to their rental address on the island, with car seats in place for the kids.

If you are staying at a vacation rental rather than boarding a ship, a cancelled flight is usually recoverable. Your constraint is the check-in window, not a noon boarding deadline. Contact your host first, then your shuttle provider once you have confirmed new flight details. Rebuilding a booking once against real information is faster than adjusting it three times against a moving target.

At Royal Galveston Shuttle, that is the whole job: stay flexible when plans change, keep people informed, and get them where they are going. Our drivers track every arrival, and our team stays reachable from the first booking to the final drop-off.

“Outstanding service and support! Our flight was canceled so we had to reschedule the car service for the next day and the support team for Royal Galveston Shuttle went overboard to accommodate us! The SUV was immaculate and the driver was professional, informative and courteous! We strongly recommend Royal Galveston Shuttle. And we are booked for our return in a week! Thank you.”

Common Questions Answered

Houston to Galveston Shuttle
Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your shuttle from Houston airports to the Galveston cruise terminals.

What is the cheapest way to get from Houston airports to the Galveston cruise terminals?

Our shared shuttle is one of the lowest-cost options at just $35 per person, with no surge pricing or weekend fees. It’s the most budget-friendly and dependable choice for cruise travelers flying into George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) or Hobby Airport (HOU).

Do your shuttles offer direct drop-off at the Royal Caribbean, Carnival, or MSC terminals?

Yes. We offer direct terminal drop-offs at Royal Caribbean Terminal 10, Carnival Terminals 25 & 28, MSC Terminal 16, Disney, Princess, and Norwegian. You will be dropped right at your cruise terminal entrance.

Can your shuttle pick us up from Houston hotels and take us to the Galveston cruise terminals?

Our private shuttles can pick you up from any hotel or address in Houston. Our shared shuttles only pick up from designated spots at IAH and Hobby Airport. For the return trip, shared shuttle passengers need to travel back to the airport to board.

What happens if my flight or cruise is delayed and I miss my shuttle?

If you purchased our Missed Shuttle Protection, you can rebook on a later same-day shuttle based on seat availability or request a refund if no seats are open. It covers verified airline or cruise delays only. Personal misplanning, traffic, rideshare issues, or arriving late are not covered.

How early should I book a shuttle before my cruise departure?

Most travelers book as soon as they have their cruise dates and flight arrangements in place. We recommend booking 2–4 weeks in advance, especially during peak cruise seasons or holidays. Booking early secures your preferred time and prevents the stress of searching for last-minute rideshare or taxi availability at Houston airports.

Do you provide car seats for children on the shuttle?

Yes. Car seats can be provided on request for both shared and private shuttles for an additional $15. We recommend requesting at the time of booking to ensure availability.

Is your Houston to Galveston shuttle wheelchair accessible?

Our vehicles are not wheelchair accessible. Passengers must be able to meet us at designated pickup spots and board safely without staff assistance. Foldable wheelchairs and walkers are welcome with an additional charge, but space is limited so early booking is recommended.

Do you serve both Houston airports — IAH and Hobby?

Yes. We pick up daily from IAH (George Bush Intercontinental) and Hobby Airport (HOU), with easy meeting-point instructions emailed to all travelers. Both airports are fully covered by our shared and private shuttle services.
