Eleven island properties will drive you to the terminal. Some bundle it into a package, some charge per head, and a few only go one direction. Here is how each is set up.
Galveston, Texas — Staying on the island the night before a cruise is worth doing. Galveston is one of the oldest cities in Texas, the Seawall runs about 10 miles, and the Strand is full of restaurants and 19th-century architecture. It works as a destination, not just a place to sleep before embarkation.
The catch is the last few miles. Once you check in, you still have to get from your hotel to Harborside Drive on cruise morning.
That is not a hard problem here. Most island hotels sit within 1 to 7 miles of the terminals, and a rideshare typically runs $12 to $20 depending on distance and demand. Plenty of travelers would still rather have the hotel handle it and stop thinking about the car altogether.
Below is every Galveston hotel currently offering port transportation, how each one structures it, and what to confirm before you book.
How Galveston hotel shuttles usually work
Nearly every island hotel handles port transportation one of three ways.
Bundled into a cruise package. The most common setup. You book a “Park, Stay & Go” or “Stay, Park & Cruise” rate that covers one night, parking for the length of your sailing, and a round-trip ride to the terminal. The shuttle is not free. It is priced into the room.
Sold separately, per person. Some hotels run a van and charge for it on its own, generally $10 to $25 a head depending on whether it is one-way or round trip. You usually sign up at check-in.
By arrangement only. The boutique inns and bed and breakfasts will drive you, but they need notice. Seats are limited and they go fast.
The distinction matters more than it sounds. A package that looks expensive on the nightly rate can come out ahead once you account for a week of port parking, which runs roughly $100 to $130 at the terminal lots.
The eleven hotels
Hilton Galveston Island Resort
Directly on the Seawall with beach access across the street. The cruise package pairs a one-night stay with parking for up to seven nights and a round-trip ride to the port. Book a straight room rate instead and the shuttle is usually sold per person at check-in.
A reasonable pick if you want a full-service beachfront hotel and would rather not think about your car for a week.
The San Luis Resort
The upper end of the Seawall properties. Resort pool, spa, several restaurants on site. It functions more like a destination resort than a pre-cruise stop, which is the point for some travelers.
Transportation runs through the Stay, Park & Cruise package. Sign up at check-in and state your terminal, since the resort sends guests to several different lines on the same morning.
The Tremont House
Closer to the terminals than anything else on this list except The George Manor. Carnival’s terminal is a short walk. Royal Caribbean’s is about a mile.
There is a paid shuttle, generally around $15 per person round trip, plus a Park & Sail rate with parking for up to seven days. If you are packing light and sailing Carnival, walking is a legitimate option.
Moody Gardens Hotel, Spa & Convention Center
The most family-friendly option on the island by a wide margin. The pyramids, aquarium, and rainforest exhibit are on the same grounds, which gives you something to do if you arrive a day early with kids.
The Stay, Park and Sail package covers valet parking for one vehicle and round-trip port transportation for up to four guests. Availability has been limited to certain days of the week, and it generally requires a one-night booking. If you want extra nights, call rather than booking online. Multi-night reservations sometimes strip the package out automatically.
Holiday Inn Resort Galveston On the Beach
A straightforward beachfront property in the middle of the Seawall strip. The cruise package covers parking for the length of your sailing plus a round-trip ride to the terminal.
Worth asking about: nights beyond the package night are usually billed separately for parking. If you are arriving two or three days early, get the total in writing.
Grand Galvez Hotel & Spa
Opened in 1911 and the most historic hotel on the island. Renovated in recent years and priced accordingly.
Shuttle service has been available but is not always listed as a formal package on the site. Call and ask about current cruise transportation and parking offers, which shift by season.
The George Manor
A restored 1851 estate turned boutique inn, about a mile from the terminals. Small and quiet.
Transportation here is private rather than a group van. Recent pricing has run about $15 per person one way with a two-person minimum and a lower rate for each additional passenger. Cruise parking is available for a weekly fee but has to be arranged ahead by email or at booking.
Avenue O Bed & Breakfast
A restored 1924 home and consistently one of the highest-rated places to stay on the island.
Book directly through the inn and a one-night stay has included free off-street parking for the duration of your cruise, breakfast, and a ride to the terminal. Transportation has to be requested when you reserve and is subject to availability, since they only run a few seats.
Comfort Suites Galveston
West end of the island, near the fishing pier, mini golf, and a movie theater. The budget end of this list.
Shuttle pricing has run about $25 per person round trip or $20 one way, with parking included when you use it. The distance is longer here, so build in extra drive time on cruise morning.
Comfort Inn & Suites Galveston
Close to the Pleasure Pier and one of the newer properties on the island. Parking packages have run around $50 for the week, with rides to the port around $10 per person.
One detail changes the math here: this has historically been drop-off only. You would need to arrange your own ride back from the terminal to collect your car. Confirm before booking.
Courtyard by Marriott Galveston Island
Furthest west on this list. The cruise package includes round-trip port transportation for up to two guests, parking for one vehicle, and a food credit at the hotel restaurant.
Good value for a couple. Larger groups should ask what additional passengers cost, since the package caps at two.

Know your terminal before you book the ride
Galveston runs four cruise terminals along Harborside Drive, and they are not in the same place. Hotel drivers will ask. Guess wrong and you are hauling luggage a mile with a boarding window closing.
As of current schedules:
- Terminal 10 — Royal Caribbean
- Terminal 16 — MSC Cruises and Norwegian
- Terminal 25 — Carnival, with some Disney and Princess sailings
- Terminal 28 — Disney
Assignments do shift, so check your cruise documents. If you are sailing MSC, note that Terminal 16 is correct. A number of guides still list an outdated terminal for that line.
Five things to confirm before you book
Is it round trip or drop-off only?
This catches more travelers than anything else on the list. Some hotels run you to the ship and stop there. If your car is sitting in their lot, you need to know how you are getting back to it.
How many nights of parking are included?
Most packages cover one hotel night plus parking for the sailing. Extra nights before or after are usually billed separately, sometimes at a daily rate that adds up fast.
What time does the van actually leave?
Hotel shuttles run on set departures, not on demand. If your boarding window opens at 11 a.m. and the first van leaves at 11:30, that is worth discovering now.
Will it fit your group and your bags?
Vans fill on weekend sailings. Reserve at booking, not at check-in. Groups of five or more should confirm capacity and luggage space specifically.
Do you need an accessible vehicle?
Booking an accessible room does not flag the shuttle. If you need a lift or a ramp, say so when you reserve and ask what the hotel actually operates. Not every property has one.
The hotel shuttle covers the last few miles. If you are flying in, the first sixty are still on you.
When a hotel shuttle is the wrong call
A hotel shuttle makes the most sense when you are driving in and want parking bundled, or when you would rather have the morning handled.
It makes less sense in four situations.
You are flying in. Hotel shuttles run between the hotel and the port, not to Houston. You still need to cover IAH or Hobby, roughly 70 to 90 minutes and 45 to 60 minutes out respectively. That leg takes a dedicated airport transfer.
You are staying in the Strand. From the Tremont or George Manor, walking or a short rideshare often costs less than the shuttle fee, particularly for a family of four.
Your group is large. At $15 to $25 a head, a family of five runs $75 to $125. A private van or two rideshares can come in under that.
Your timing is tight. Fixed departures do not flex. If you are arriving late, driving yourself or booking a ride you control is safer.

Does any Galveston hotel offer a genuinely free shuttle?
Effectively yes, but as part of a package rather than a standalone perk. Avenue O has included transportation with a direct one-night booking. Hilton, Moody Gardens, Holiday Inn Resort, and Courtyard price it into the rate.
Which hotel is closest to the terminals?
The Tremont House, at roughly half a mile. The George Manor is about a mile. Both are walkable to Carnival’s terminal for most people traveling light.
What does a rideshare to the port cost from a Seawall hotel?
Generally $12 to $20. Expect the high end on Saturday and Sunday mornings, when everyone on the island wants the same ride at the same time.
Can I use the shuttle if I am not parking there?
Usually, though pricing may differ. Hotels that bundle shuttle and parking sometimes price the ride alone separately. Ask.
Do Texas City or League City hotels run shuttles to the port?
Not typically. Texas City is about 20 minutes out and rates are often lower, but you will arrange your own transportation. Run the numbers before assuming it is cheaper.
