The Woodlands to the Galveston Cruise Port
80.2 miles · About 1 hr 19 min · From $210 per vehicle · Private only
The Woodlands sits 28 miles north of downtown Houston, which means the drive to Galveston runs the full length of the metro — and passes Bush Intercontinental on the way. That makes this the one area we serve where a shared airport seat is worth a second look before you book a private van. Both options are laid out below.
Private Van, or Shared Seat from IAH?
You pass Bush Intercontinental on the way south, so the $35 shared shuttle is a real option from here in a way it is not from Katy or Sugar Land. Below is the arithmetic, with our own private rate on the right. We would rather you booked the cheaper one and came back next time.
If the shared seat is the better call for your party, book it on the IAH to Galveston shuttle page — it departs Terminal A, Door A113. If you would rather not deal with the airport at all, the rest of this page is about the private run.
80 Miles, Almost All of It I-45
The Woodlands route is the simplest of the eight areas we publish. From Town Center you join I‑45 South and stay on it for roughly seventy-five of the eighty miles, past Bush Intercontinental, through Houston, out past Webster and League City, over the causeway and onto the island. One road, one decision.
Light traffic puts that at about an hour and nineteen minutes. The Hardy Toll Road alternative runs 89.3 miles and takes closer to an hour and twenty-seven, so it only earns its place when I‑45 has stopped moving. The pinch point is the stretch between Bush Intercontinental and the north loop, which on weekday mornings can add twenty-five minutes on its own.
For a noon boarding we would normally leave The Woodlands between 8 and 8:30 AM — earlier than we would suggest from Sugar Land, which is fifteen miles closer and can avoid the city altogether. Conroe, ten miles further north on the same road, needs another fifteen minutes on top. Our free DockDoc™ planner will work out the exact time for your sailing.
Where We Collect in The Woodlands
The Woodlands was master-planned from scratch in 1974 across 28,000 wooded acres, so it reads less like a suburb than a small city with its own centre. We collect from residential addresses anywhere in it, and from the Town Center hotels for visitors who are here before a cruise.
The Woodlands Resort, the Waterway Marriott, The Westin, Embassy Suites and Hyatt. Common for families flying in for a Pavilion show or a golf weekend before boarding.
Waterway Square, Restaurant Row and the Hughes Landing lakefront. All within the free Town Center trolley loop, though we come to the door rather than a stop.
Pickup from either shopping district works, though a hotel or home address is easier to find at 8 AM on a cruise morning than a retail entrance.
Grogan’s Mill, Alden Bridge, Cochran’s Crossing, Panther Creek, Indian Springs, Sterling Ridge and Creekside Park. Distance across the township is why the rate below is a starting figure.
Spring, Shenandoah, Oak Ridge North, Magnolia and Tomball on the same basis. See areas we serve for everywhere we publish rates.
The Woodlands to Galveston Rates
Per vehicle, not per seat. Tolls and taxes included; child seats $15 each way. Your street address sets the final figure, which is then fixed and does not move with demand.
The Woodlands carries a small uplift over our base rate because it is the second-longest run we publish. See our fleet for luggage capacity, or the private Galveston shuttle page for grace periods and what is included.
Dropping Off at the Port
After eighty miles the last thing anyone wants is a walk with luggage, so your driver pulls up at the terminal entrance itself. Royal Caribbean sails from Terminal 10, Carnival and Norwegian from Terminals 25 and 28, Disney and Princess from Terminal 25, MSC from Terminal 16. Assignments move between seasons — tell us the cruise line when you book and we will confirm.
Sailing with Carnival or Disney? Those pages carry terminal detail. Seawall hotels and vacation rentals are served at the same rate as a terminal drop. The return leg is the same trip in reverse — see Galveston to Houston transfers.
