Webster to the Galveston Cruise Port

29.3 miles · About 33 min · From $195 per vehicle · Private only

Webster sits midway between downtown Houston and Galveston, which makes this the shortest run we publish — under thirty-five minutes on a clear morning. It is also closer to the cruise terminals than either Houston airport, which matters if you are flying in or staying locally before you sail.

Closer to the Port Than Either Airport

Distance from the Galveston cruise terminals, measured along the driving route. Webster is nearer than Hobby and less than half the distance from Bush Intercontinental — which is the reason this page reads differently from the others.

Two things follow. If you are flying in for a Galveston cruise, landing at Hobby and staying a night in the Clear Lake area puts you closer to the ship than most local residents. And if you already live here, a Webster departure can leave later than anywhere else we serve — around 10 AM for a noon boarding, against 8 AM from Conroe.

Space Center First, Then the Ship

Webster calls itself the Gateway to NASA and is Space Center Houston’s municipal partner. By the city’s own account, its largest visitor market is Dallas–Fort Worth, and those visitors come for the Space Center and the Galveston coast on the same trip. If that is your plan, the order below works better than doing it the other way round.

Drive or fly in the day before

Webster sits directly on I‑45 with the Bay Area Boulevard exit as its spine, and the hotel cluster there — Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, Best Western and others — is built around Space Center traffic rather than cruise traffic, which usually shows in the rate.

Space Center Houston that afternoon

It drew over a million visitors in 2019 and sits minutes from the hotels rather than an hour away. Doing it before you sail rather than after means you are not trying to fit it around a disembarkation morning.

Kemah or Clear Lake for dinner

The Boardwalk and the waterfront restaurants around Clear Lake are ten to fifteen minutes east. A relaxed evening beats a 5 AM start from somewhere ninety miles north.

Thirty-three minutes to the terminal

We collect from your hotel the following morning and drop at the terminal entrance. At this distance a 10 AM pickup comfortably covers a noon boarding, so nobody is eating breakfast at dawn.

We serve every hotel along Bay Area Boulevard and NASA Parkway, plus residential addresses across Webster, Clear Lake City, League City, Nassau Bay, El Lago, Seabrook and Kemah. Give us the hotel name or street address when you book.

Half an Hour Down the Interstate

There is not much to it. You join I‑45 South, run past League City and Texas City, cross the causeway and you are on the island — 29.3 miles, about thirty-three minutes clear. A slightly different line through League City comes out at 29.9 miles and thirty-six minutes; the difference is inside the margin of a traffic light.

Webster carries roughly a quarter of a million vehicles a day on I‑45 through the middle of it, so the local pinch is getting onto the interstate rather than the interstate itself. On a cruise Saturday the southbound run is usually clear by the time you reach it, since the volume heading to the port is spread across the morning.

Short as it is, we still build in a buffer. Half an hour of driving leaves no room for a closure on the causeway, which is the one thing on this route with no way around it. Our free DockDoc™ planner will set a departure time against your specific sailing.

A fair question at this distance is whether a transfer is worth booking at all, and for two people driving their own car it often is not — the same point we make on the Pearland page. It changes for hotel guests without a car, for parties of six or more, and for anyone who would rather not leave a vehicle in a port lot for a week. See our fleet for luggage capacity, or the private Galveston shuttle page for grace periods and what is included.

Dropping Off at the Port

Your driver pulls up at the terminal entrance rather than a nearby lot. Royal Caribbean sails from Terminal 10, Carnival and Norwegian from Terminals 25 and 28, Disney and Princess from Terminal 25, MSC from Terminal 16. Assignments move between seasons, so give us the cruise line when you book and we will confirm which entrance you need.

Sailing with Royal Caribbean or Disney? Those pages carry terminal detail. Seawall hotels and vacation rentals are served at the same rate. Coming back is the same short run reversed — see Galveston to Houston transfers.

Webster to Galveston Questions Answered

01

Is there a shuttle from Webster to Galveston?

Yes, as a private transfer. We collect from any Webster address, and from the hotels along Bay Area Boulevard and NASA Parkway, then drop at the Galveston cruise terminals, Seawall hotels or vacation rentals. Rates start at $195 per vehicle for up to five passengers.
02

How far is Webster from the Galveston cruise port?

29.3 miles down I‑45, about thirty-three minutes in light traffic. It is the shortest run we publish — shorter than from either Houston airport.
03

Do you collect from the Clear Lake and NASA area hotels?

Yes. The hotel cluster around the Bay Area Boulevard exit is a regular pickup, mostly for people who have come in to see Space Center Houston before boarding. Give us the hotel name when you book and we will meet you at the main entrance.
04

Should we stay in Webster the night before a cruise?

It works well if you are driving in from out of state or flying into Hobby. You are half an hour from the terminal rather than an hour and a half, the hotels are priced around Space Center visitors rather than cruise passengers, and you can see the Space Center and Kemah on the way through instead of trying to fit them around a disembarkation morning.
05

What time should we leave Webster for a noon boarding?

Around 10 AM. Webster departs later than any other area we publish, because the drive is half an hour rather than two. We still build in a buffer for the causeway, which is the one stretch on this route with no way around it.
06

Can I book a shared seat from Webster instead?

No. Shared seats at $35 per person run a fixed hourly schedule between the Houston airports and Galveston and do not collect from residential addresses or local hotels. If you are flying in, shared seats are available on the Hobby airport route — though Webster is closer to the port than Hobby is.
07

Is a transfer worth it over this short a distance?

For two people with their own car, often not — driving and parking is cheaper. It changes if you are staying in a hotel without a vehicle, travelling as six or more, or would rather not leave a car in a port lot for a week. We would rather say that than have you work it out afterwards.
08

Do you serve League City, Seabrook, Kemah and Nassau Bay?

Yes, along with Clear Lake City and El Lago, on the same basis. All are within a few miles of Webster and quoted from the street address. See areas we serve for every area we publish rates for.
09

Do you provide child car seats?

Yes — infant, toddler and booster seats at $15 each way. Texas law requires an approved restraint for any child under eight who is shorter than 4 feet 9 inches, under Transportation Code § 545.412. Tell us ages and weights when you book.
10

How far in advance should I book?

At least 48 hours. Cruise weekends and holidays fill earlier, so two to four weeks ahead is safer for Friday through Sunday sailings. Free cancellation applies up to 48 hours before pickup — see the service terms.
