Conroe to the Galveston Cruise Port

89.7 miles · About 1 hr 30 min · From $215 per vehicle · Private only

This is the longest route we publish — ninety miles, almost all of it I‑45, straight through Houston from the north. It is a simple drive with no route decisions to make, which means the only thing that really matters is what time you pull out of the driveway. That is what most of this page is about.

What Time to Leave Conroe

Ninety miles at ninety minutes clear, and Houston in the middle of it. We build every Conroe pickup on a two-hour allowance rather than the free-flow figure, because the twenty miles either side of the north loop are where the time goes. Find your boarding window below.

Times assume a two-hour run rather than the ninety-minute free-flow figure. A 7 or 8 AM departure crosses Houston during the tail of the morning commute, which is deliberate — leaving later saves traffic but eats the buffer you would want on a ninety-mile trip. Ships do not wait. If your cruise line has given you a numbered arrival window, use that rather than the general boarding time.

Our free DockDoc™ planner will do this properly for your specific ship and terminal. If you are further south, The Woodlands is ten miles closer on the same road and can leave about fifteen minutes later.

One Road, Ninety Miles

There is no clever alternative from Conroe. You join I‑45 South and stay on it: past The Woodlands, past Bush Intercontinental, through Houston, out through Webster and League City, over the causeway. The Hardy Toll Road option adds nine miles for an extra eight minutes and only earns its keep when the interstate has stopped altogether.

What that means practically is that Conroe trips are unusually predictable in good conditions and unusually exposed in bad ones. There is no way to route around a problem on I‑45 without losing more time than the problem costs. It is the main reason we build in the extra half hour rather than quoting the free-flow number.

Coming back after the cruise is easier. Disembarkation runs from about 7 to 10 AM and the northbound run misses the commute entirely, so return trips typically land closer to the ninety-minute figure. Book both legs together or arrange the return separately — see Galveston to Houston transfers.

Pickup Across Conroe and the Lake

Conroe was established in 1904 and now covers 77.5 square miles with about 114,000 residents — a genuine city rather than a bedroom suburb, with its own downtown, cultural district and convention centre. It also wraps around a good deal of Lake Conroe, which is where the geography starts to matter for us.

A pickup near downtown Conroe or off I‑45 is close to the ninety-mile figure. A lakefront address on the western shore, out past FM 1097 or over towards Montgomery, adds fifteen to twenty miles before the trip has properly started. That is the whole reason the rate below is quoted as a starting figure rather than a flat one.

We also collect from Willis, Panorama Village, Montgomery, Cut and Shoot and New Caney on the same basis. Give us the street address and you get one confirmed figure that then holds — it does not rise on cruise weekends or at busy hours. Every area we publish rates for is on areas we serve.

Per vehicle, not per seat. Conroe carries the highest uplift of the eight areas we publish, which reflects the distance. Tolls and taxes included; child seats $15 each way.

All figures are starting rates. For a family of four or more, a van comes in below port parking plus fuel plus a ninety-mile drive home at the end of a week away. See our fleet for luggage capacity, or the private Galveston shuttle page for grace periods and what is included.

Dropping Off at the Port

After ninety miles nobody wants a walk with luggage, so your driver pulls up at the terminal entrance itself. Royal Caribbean sails from Terminal 10, Carnival and Norwegian from Terminals 25 and 28, Disney and Princess from Terminal 25, MSC from Terminal 16. Assignments move between seasons, so give us the cruise line when you book and we will confirm which entrance you need.

Sailing with Royal Caribbean or Carnival? Those pages carry terminal detail. Seawall hotels and vacation rentals are served at the same rate — and for a run this long, an overnight on the island the evening before is worth considering.

Conroe to Galveston Questions Answered

01

Is there a shuttle from Conroe to Galveston?

Yes, as a private transfer. We collect from any Conroe address and drop off at the Galveston cruise terminals, Seawall hotels or vacation rentals. Rates start at $215 per vehicle for up to five passengers.
02

How far is Conroe from the Galveston cruise port?

89.7 miles, effectively all of it I‑45 South, at about an hour and thirty minutes in light traffic. The Hardy Toll Road alternative is 98.9 miles and roughly an hour and thirty-eight. We plan Conroe pickups on a two-hour allowance rather than the free-flow figure.
03

What time should we leave Conroe for a noon boarding?

8:00 AM, which puts you at the terminal around 10:00. That crosses Houston during the tail of the morning commute on purpose — leaving later is calmer but spends the buffer you want on a ninety-mile trip. If your cruise line has given you a numbered arrival window, work to that instead.
04

Can I book a shared seat from Conroe instead?

Not from a home address. Shared seats at $35 per person run a fixed hourly schedule between the Houston airports and Galveston. Conroe travellers do pass Bush Intercontinental on the way south, so if you are happy to start there, shared seats are available on the IAH airport route — though that is a 45-minute drive from Conroe before the shuttle even begins.
05

Why is the rate shown as “from $215”?

Conroe covers 77.5 square miles and wraps around a large lake. A downtown pickup is close to the ninety-mile figure; a lakefront address on the western shore adds fifteen to twenty miles before the trip starts. Once you give us a street address the figure is confirmed and then fixed.
06

Do you collect from Lake Conroe, Willis or Montgomery?

Yes, along with Panorama Village, Cut and Shoot and New Caney. Rates follow the same logic, with distance from the route setting the figure. Call with your address and travel date for a quote.
07

Is the price per person or per vehicle?

Per vehicle. Two passengers and five passengers pay the same rate in the same van. There are two six-seat options: the Economy Van, which is the same vehicle with a sixth seat, and the Black Suburban, the premium choice with leather and more luggage room.
08

Should we stay in Galveston the night before?

Worth considering on a run this long, particularly for a morning boarding or if you are travelling with young children. An evening transfer misses the commute entirely and removes the cruise-morning risk. We drop at any Seawall hotel or vacation rental for the same rate as a terminal drop.
09

Do you provide child car seats?

Yes — infant, toddler and booster seats at $15 each way. Texas law requires an approved restraint for any child under eight who is shorter than 4 feet 9 inches, under Transportation Code § 545.412. Tell us ages and weights when you book.
10

How far in advance should I book?

At least 48 hours. Cruise weekends and holidays fill earlier, so two to four weeks ahead is safer for Friday through Sunday sailings. Free cancellation applies up to 48 hours before pickup — see the service terms.
